We have a REALLY good organist. He can play anything and is just great. The problem recently is that he has been out of town a lot and so he had the next best thing we had to play and it wasn't great. My biggest problem with her is that she doesn't even play the right song. One time, ok, but numerous times!!! I am the ward chorister and I felt like I had to babysit her and I HATED going to church when I knew that she was going to be accompanying. We don't have very many options but I was determined to find other people. Then they made me the Ward Music chair, so then it was under my direction to pick the music and find people to play. Since then, I have been looking. Our good friend, who is also in the bishopric and the one over the music said that he only knows two songs but he is willing to play in Sacrament. I set it up so that in about a month Matthew would play the opening and Sacrament songs and then Bary would play the intermediate and closing songs. I was SUPER nervous for Matthew. He was also VERY nervous, but he did a great job!!! I was so very proud of him. Then Bary, having never played in Sacrament before, jumped on the organ and played his two songs and just blew us all out of the ballpark! It was really cool, kind of overshadowed Matthew, especially because very few knew this guy could play but they had seen Matthew playing before.
Now he is working on learning Glorious from Meet the Mormons so that his friend who goes to church and school with him can sing it while Matthew plays at their last chorus concert in the spring. It will be interesting if he can play in front of hundreds of people that aren't at church. I am sure he can do it, he does get nervous, but ultimately I thinks he kind of enjoys it.
