Our reunion was Thursday and Friday and then Saturday morning was breaking down camp and people leaving.
Thursday night was the beginning of trying to put up a tent. My dad said that it was going to take 3 hours to set up this tent. None of us believed him and thought with all of us McNiven kids it would not take that long. Well, my dad had never put it up before so none of us really knew what we were doing, nor did we realize just how big it was.
Mike started pounding these stakes in the ground Thursday night and then we had to leave it overnight.

There were definitely the biggest stakes I have ever seen.
Finally Friday morning this tent started going up. It looked like a circus tent it was so big, and this was just 2/3 of it. We could have made it bigger. There is one tall, tall pole that you have to put in the middle. It is pretty difficult to get up but we have lots of strong guys. It was kind of entertaining to watch them put it up. I was the photographer. haha.
This was the final result. It actually doesn't look very big in this picture, but it is.
While the guys were putting up the enormous tent Katrina and Jessica were making breakfast.
I am just going to brag a little here, and it has nothing to do with me or my own children.
This little niece of mine, Jessica, is the most helpful young person I think I have ever met. She was always helping with everything. Always asking if there was anything that she could help with, and she actually is helpful not just get-in-your-way "help". She did exactly what you asked her to do, and WHEN you asked her to do it. She was so nice to Allison and played with her all the time. Allison calls her "my friend". Allison has a hard time with names so when she refers to "her friend" we know that she is talking about Jessica.
After breakfast, grandpa had three horses that the grandkids could ride. Every grandchild got their turn riding a horse and they all loved it. Unfortunately there had to be people that walked around with them so Mike and Chad switched half-way through and then the two oldest grandsons got to lead all of their cousins around before it was their turn to ride the horses by themselves.
Here is Allison with Paul leading her.
After horseback rides we went down to the Huntley, Barkemier park. It was so fun because there was grass all over, for one, but there were also swings and other things for all different ages.
Here is the merry-go-round
I was on the tete-totter (or seesaw as some may know it) with Allison and I convinced my mom to come sit with Allison. Maybe it was that we were too big for it or something but that was the most uncomfortable tete-totter I have ever been on. Now, I don't think I have been on a tete-totter since I was little and that could be why but when I was little it was a bigger wooden one that you sat on not a skinnier metal one. I don't know how much of that is because I had a smaller bum back then so it was easier to sit on compared to now but all I know is that my mom and I were hurting being on that thing. It was fun to get her on there though.
Cute Allison going up the slide with her fabulous smile.
I wasn't able to post Spence and Joni's family picture because they have a good camera so I just took their family pictures with their camera, therefore not having that picture to put up with the other family pictures but I just part of their family here.

The afternoon before this, Ashlyn wasn't breathing well so they took her in and she ended up having to stay in the hospital overnight. When they were finally able to get out of the hospital they came to the park to join us.
Since I don't have a family picture, here are Spence and Joni's other two children.

Cole
Cole was SO excited to ride horses. He kept wanting to go down to the horses but had to got back. When I told him it was his turn to ride horses I wish I could have had his reaction on video. It was absolutely adorable.
We had box car races and the kids had so much fun with it.
We also had an obstacle course and the funny thing is that I think my mom designed it for the grandchildren, but my siblings are just a little competitive and we all went also. The funny thing is is that none of the in-laws raced just the four boys and I.
And people wonder why I am so competitive and aggressive when playing sports...um, I don't know, maybe being after four boys had something to do with it.
Matthew pushing Allison and other cousins on the merry-go-round.
My mom had Spence and I bury little trinkets and prizes in the sand and then the grandkids got to come over and find them.
Sometime while we were at the park I lost my camera lens cap. I was so grumpy about it. I didn't want to ruin my lens and I had looked everywhere for that cap. It was a black cap and I could not find it anywhere. I was sure that I would see a black thing in the green grass but I just wasn't spotting it. Finally I decided that I was putting my camera away until the cap was found. I put it in the car and said a prayer.
I was not in a good mood losing that cap. It was no where to be found.
We finally decided that with all the kids and adults we should put out an award for the person that found it. I had my other cap from my other lens so I was able to show the kids what they were looking for. We put a $1 up as an award and boy did that help them look. They looked all over the park. It was suggested to me twice to look in our black bag that we put our garbage in. I wanted to make sure we looked absolutely everywhere else before I started looking in there. We had just finished lunch so there was a lot of garbage but I didn't have any other options. My mom and I dumped out the bag and started going through each individual piece of garbage putting it back in the bag looking for my lens. Thankfully it was our own garbage and it was recent. As everyone else was out looking, sure enough my mom found it in the garbage we were going through.
I was so happy and relieved to find it and the grandkids were all bummed that grandma found it and none of them got the $1. I then went and put it away in the camera case and said a prayer of thanks.
There was a basketball game that happened and a dodgeball game and we also played volleyball.
There was a storm that came and it started raining and lightening and we finally had to go back to our camp. I wish we could have played volleyball longer. It is super fun to play with my family.
Saturday morning we had to clean out and take the trailers back and everything was taken down including the big tent that was up for less then 24 hours.
Homesteader day parade was that morning so I drove Heather's van and took some nieces and nephews with me to the parade. It was fun to have a van full of nieces and nephews.
However, the best part I think about the WHOLE thing was when we came home from the parade, I had some of the oldest nieces and nephews with me. Instead of letting them watch a movie I put on ABBA. It was so fun to have everybody singing and jamming out in the van. I LOVED IT!!!
We got back to grandma's house and we didn't get out, we all just kept singing and jamming. The oldest grandchild, Paul, is 15 and it was like I had a little brother. It was really fun. I think it is fun chilling with my nieces and nephews, especially the older ones because we can just have fun. I am now considered the fun aunt, which is definitely true:) I had SO much fun jamming out, windows down, and just singing our little hearts out. SO MUCH FUN!!
