Last year Matthew really wanted to be a transformer but we usually go to Goodwill for their costumes and there were any transformer costumes there so we settled on Spiderman. It was too big for him and it just didn't look all that cute but it worked.
After Halloween last year I went to Walmart to get their 50% off costumes and I decided that I would get one for dress-ups (since my kids didn't have any dress-ups) and get two for this year. I found a Snow White for Allison and a Transformer for Matthew. I was so proud of myself. I put them in the Halloween box and then forgot about them.
This year, I decided to take Matthew to goodwill and from there we would decide what he wanted to be. We found this TMNT costume and he was so excited about it. It didn't have the red on it so we could choose which TMNT he wanted to be. He found daggers (two short swords) and decided that if those were going to be his weapons then he needed to be Rafael who was red. I went and got red material from the store and made his belt and headband. I should have actually sewed it so it wouldn't fray but I was too busy baking lately. Maybe I will do something with the rest of the red material I have for the next time he wears it. When we actually put the belt and head/eye band around him, I thought he looked so cute. I was actually excited for him.
Allison found an Awowa (Aurora) dress and decided that is what she wanted to be. I bought it but never put it on her.
A couple days after our trip to goodwill I got our Halloween tub out because I knew we had to Halloween books in there and I had to get the Charlie Brown, The Great Pumpkin out so the kids could start watching it. As I was in there.....I found those costumes that I was so proud of myself for buying last year. The transformer was size 10 (I guess that is the smallest size they had). Matthew was so excited to be a TMNT that we figured that one could wait another year before it would get too small. However, the Snow White dress that I bought Allison is a 3T. There was no way it would fit her next year, but she wanted to be Awowa. I never did pull the Transformer costume out but I did pull Snow White.
Tonight when I was trying to get Allison ready to go to the Ward Carnival and Trunk-or-Treat, the Aurora costume was too big. I figured it was a great excuse for me to put her in the other costume.
She wasn't happy about wearing the dress but I left with her crying and I figured she would get over it. She finally did and actually liked it by the end of the night. She "says" she wants to wear it again. We will see if she fights me the next time we put it on her. I am glad it worked out though.

After the carnival we had a trunk-or-treat outside and the kids got more candy then I would have wanted them to but it is fun for them.
We had a fun night.
