Costumes

Last year Matthew really wanted to be a transformer but we usually go to Goodwill for their costumes and there were any transformer costumes there so we settled on Spiderman. It was too big for him and it just didn't look all that cute but it worked.
After Halloween last year I went to Walmart to get their 50% off costumes and I decided that I would get one for dress-ups (since my kids didn't have any dress-ups) and get two for this year. I found a Snow White for Allison and a Transformer for Matthew. I was so proud of myself. I put them in the Halloween box and then forgot about them.
This year, I decided to take Matthew to goodwill and from there we would decide what he wanted to be. We found this TMNT costume and he was so excited about it. It didn't have the red on it so we could choose which TMNT he wanted to be. He found daggers (two short swords) and decided that if those were going to be his weapons then he needed to be Rafael who was red. I went and got red material from the store and made his belt and headband. I should have actually sewed it so it wouldn't fray but I was too busy baking lately. Maybe I will do something with the rest of the red material I have for the next time he wears it. When we actually put the belt and head/eye band around him, I thought he looked so cute. I was actually excited for him.
Allison found an Awowa (Aurora) dress and decided that is what she wanted to be. I bought it but never put it on her.
A couple days after our trip to goodwill I got our Halloween tub out because I knew we had to Halloween books in there and I had to get the Charlie Brown, The Great Pumpkin out so the kids could start watching it. As I was in there.....I found those costumes that I was so proud of myself for buying last year. The transformer was size 10 (I guess that is the smallest size they had). Matthew was so excited to be a TMNT that we figured that one could wait another year before it would get too small. However, the Snow White dress that I bought Allison is a 3T. There was no way it would fit her next year, but she wanted to be Awowa. I never did pull the Transformer costume out but I did pull Snow White.
Tonight when I was trying to get Allison ready to go to the Ward Carnival and Trunk-or-Treat, the Aurora costume was too big. I figured it was a great excuse for me to put her in the other costume.
She wasn't happy about wearing the dress but I left with her crying and I figured she would get over it. She finally did and actually liked it by the end of the night. She "says" she wants to wear it again. We will see if she fights me the next time we put it on her. I am glad it worked out though.
Here are my cute kids in their costumes.

After the carnival we had a trunk-or-treat outside and the kids got more candy then I would have wanted them to but it is fun for them.

Though it was almost two hours past their bedtime, I decided to just let them enjoy this time. I told them that when I was little I would dump my candy out to see what I got. They dumped theirs out and then Matthew decided to sort his. It was really fun to see them so excited about the night.

We had a fun night.
My post is up and now the kitchen is calling my name.

Halloween Cupcakes

I really should be cleaning my kitchen from all the baking I have been doing today but I am not. I want to blog and put the pictures of Halloween up so far. I saw these cute cupcakes on a recipe blog that I look at all the time: jamiecooksitup.blogspot.com and have been wanting to make them to see if I could replicate what she did. Our ward trunk-or-treating was coming up and I volunteered to bring cupcakes to the carnival for the cupcake walk. I figured if I actually volunteered to bring some then I would actually do it. So today I have been decorating cupcakes and preparing for teacher appreciation day which is tomorrow at Matthew's school and that means that all the kindergarteners are suppose to bring desserts for all the teachers. I have made a few things. However, decorating cupcakes was the first thing to do on my list since it was coming up first. I finally pulled out my decorating stuff and these were actually really fun and easy and quick. I was pleased with the way they turned out and was excited to show Chris when he got home from work. Here are the finished products.
A mummy

Witch #1

Witch #2

Spider web with spider

All of my mummies

All of my witches

All of my spider webs

All of the cupcakes I decorated today.

Since I only need a dozen at the party I am sending the other 8 to Matthew's school as well as white chocolate covered oreos with dark chocolate on top to look like a spider web and pumpkin pie squares, all of which I got from Jamiecooksitup. I had planned on making another thing or two but I am done with making things. Hopefully other kindergartener families will bring desserts in also.Needless to say my kitchen is a disaster but I am blogging right now:)

Going Crazy

Do you ever feel this way?

This is how I have been feeling lately and I think a large part does have to do with me doing it to myself, (like making two deserts and complicated crescent rolls for enrichment and making 3 different desserts for teacher appreciation at Matthew's school...but they are recipes I have been wanting to try for awhile so I mize well do it now right?) but do you ever feel like you just can't ever catch up? Especially the daunting tasks or laundry, ironing, keeping the kitchen clean, blogging, scrapbooking, house keeping.
I have so many great intentions of being so productive and then things just come up and all of the things on my list in my head do not actually happen. Maybe I need to start writing them down more. I used to do that all the time but I can't find the pads of paper I used to write my lists down so I am not wasting a whole piece of paper. I need to remedy that situation. If I wait until I can actually find those notepads of paper it may be years, who knows.
As of this very moment the one thing that is caught up is my blog because I feel like it is important to get the details down so I can refer back to it when I actually get to those pictures whenever that is.
I am ready to be done wondering what is going to happen and ready to have a place to put everything in all of these boxes we have everywhere in our apartment.
Enough venting about how much I have to do because I never feel caught up and here I go to get closer to getting caught up with something.
