It's Solar Time

I have wanted to get a sun oven for a long time. I think it will be really useful here in Texas especially considering we were in a drought last year with months over 100 degrees. That means a lot of solar oven time. I haven't gotten to use it all that much since we have had cloudy days but occasionally when I think about using it the sun it there for me.
I made peanut butter chocolate chip cookies as the first thing that I tried this baby out with. It was so cool to see these cookies bake just by the sun. I learned that the inside definitely does get hot and the glass does as well, but these cookies were delicious:)

The finished product:)

I am still learning.
I did try dehydrating  apples but clouds and rain showed up and it didn't really work. I had to finish them in my dehydrator.

Kindergarten Texas Celebration Program

I always feel like nothing really exciting happened to need to update my blog and then I look at the pictures on my camera and I remember that things did happen.
Matthew had a Kindergarten Texas Celebration Program that we got to go to. Unfortunately I did not check my video camera beforehand and it didn't get to record much of it. Oh well:(
They sang lots of songs in English and then Spanish. It was cute to see these kids all wearing cowboy hats and the boys wearing mustaches.

They say Bingo but instead they sang it about Texas. When they lifted up the letters the E was backwards. It was pretty funny because the poor girl never did figure it out.

Chris says that some of these mustaches didn't look too out of place. However, our bright orange-haired child with a black mustache definitely didn't fit together.
These kids are most of Matthew's homeroom class. Every day they switch, so since Matthew started in Spanish the first day, Mrs. Hawkins class that is his homeroom teacher. The next day they all do English. I am amazed how well it actually works, since there is half English speakers and half Spanish speakers. Matthew does actually know some Spanish which is pretty cool.

This group is all of the dual language kids. Mrs. Greenlee is the English teacher and we really like her a lot and I have been able to help here with different things throughout the year.  Each day the kids have language arts which means that they go to their native language classroom and work on phonics all together just in that language.

I actually did not know and was surprised to hear that there is an all Spanish class. I would have thought that being in the states the kids would either go into the dual language program or English class. It wasn't until our teacher homeroom teacher, Mrs. Hawkins, took a leave of absence (because of the principle) that there were numerous different subs that try to fill in with the dual language program and just couldn't cut it. So then they took Mr. Vela out of his classroom, which I found out was all Spanish speaking and put him in Matthew homeroom. Sadly the school cares more about the dual language program then the Spanish program. I thought this was better for Matthew's class but I thought it was terrible for his class. However, when I went in the classroom to help with the Valentine's party, Mr. Vela had no clue what was going on. It wasn't his usually thing and after two weeks of being there he still didn't know what was going on. One of the boys' mom was in there a lot and she knew more about what was going on then he did. It was really sad and very upsetting. Finally Mrs. Hawkins came back expecting that things would be different but they weren't.  We got a letter a week later saying she was done. This day of the program was her last day. Matthew's homeroom still went two weeks with other subs and then they finally got a brand new very young, just out of college, in fact she graduates in May, girl in there. I definitely have not been impressed or happy with what has happened but Matthew is still learning and doing well. Mrs. Greenlee has had so much on her plate trying to keep everything together and she has been wonderful.

This is Mr. Vela's class, the all Spanish Kindergarten class

This is Mrs. McCall's all English class.

I realized after I took this picture above that he has had his mustache upside down the whole time. That is one of the reasons why it looks so funny on him.
