HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE!!!
On Friday, March 6th, 2015 the kids were home from school as well as Chris because it had snowed the day before so they had a snow day. All day I was having contractions, however, I didn't really let up doing anything I was doing. I kind of wanted to put myself into labor. My doctor told me that she would be "on deck" this day. I had that thought in the back of my head all day. Around 2ish, I decided to finally start counting and recording my contractions. They were about 3-8 minutes apart, some stronger than others but not as bad as the ones two weeks previously.
Finally I decided to try to call the hospital and see if they would have a dr (my dr) call me back like that happened last time. A nurse called me and she advised me to just come into the hospital. I still wasn't completely sure I wanted to go, because I didn't want to get sent home again. I asked the nurse that if I had to have my c-section tonight, if Dr. Tozer would be the one doing it. She said that Dr. Tozer was there until 8pm. It was about 5pm so I knew that if I had a chance at all to have this baby it would have to be before Dr. Tozer left for the night because she was king of routing for me in my appointments.
SO.....we dropped the kids off at Bary and Annette Dalton's house..AGAIN and away we went to the hospital. They hooked me up and I was concerned that my contractions would stop. After an hour or so, Dr. Tozer (my dr) came in and checked me. In the office earlier that week I was only dilated to a fingertip, but this time I was dilated to a 1. Now whether I was or not, I am not sure but she said, "You are contracting, your cervix has changed, you are 37 weeks and 4 days....Do you want to have the c-section tonight?" I was almost elated when she asked that. I said, "well, I know she is alive so we should do it so something doesn't happen to her." She said, "Yeah, I know you have been really worried throughout the whole pregnancy, so yeah, Let's Have A Baby."
I was excited but still worried that something would happen so that I wasn't able to get it done that night and they would send me home.
However, they started getting me prepped. They needed to put an IV in me...but apparently I was SO dehydrated that I didn't have any veins for them to find. That is probably why I was having contractions but I did have 3 of my bottles of water before I went to the hospital. Anyways, they poked me 4 times before deciding to bring in the Anesthesiologist to try to do it. He poked me twice, couldn't find a vein and then finally he found a vein in my wrist in my right hand. I literally could not move my hand any way at all. HOWEVER, he at least got something in my veins and they could start all the medicines that they needed to give me and pumping me full of liquids.
I walked to the operating room and got on the table. The operating nurse was named Mesha, which is short for the Polish version of Michelle. We thought that was really cool because Chris has relatives from Poland and we just decided maybe ten minutes before that this baby was going to be named Michelle Robyn Thomas, and Mesha was our nurse, kind of coincidental.
The anesthesiologist gave me the spinal and then had me immediately lay down. I was already feeling warm and weightless. They got me situated, brought the doctors and Chris in and started going. It wasn't long before they pulled and we had a baby born at 8:29pm on March 6, 2015, weighing 6lbs 4oz and 19.5 inches long. When I saw and also when I heard her I just starting bawling. We have been trying to get a baby here for over 4 years, and she was finally here!!!
They wiped her down a bit and wrapped her up and then brought her to me to see. Chris held her next to me while the doctors put me all back together.
It really didn't seem like we were in the operating room very long, it was probably about an hour but then we went back to the original room I was in. They weighed Michelle there, I got to start nursing and they also were able to switch my IV over to the left arm so I could move my hand again.
I am just overjoyed to have her here!!!
