Matthew - Book of Mormon Stories

Even though my mom plays piano and has her whole life she was worn out trying to get me to learn since I am #7. I can completely understand because it takes a lot of time and patience which I am sure she didn't have anymore piano patience when it came my turn. I am thankful for what I did learn and thankful that I have enjoyed music and been able to be in bands to learn to count and read music. I wish now that my mom pushed me to learn to play when I was younger but now it is my turn to push my kids. I can see how frustrating it is so I understand.
Anyways, because we are cheap, I have just been doing piano lessons with Matthew and Allison. I am sure that if I sent them to piano lessons they could be so much better but right now this will just have to do. I am surprised how quickly Matthew can pick up a song. Not that he is super good, but he can just figure out the notes and learn to play it, I think even faster than I can so I am impressed with him. I just assign him a song and he figures out the rest from there. Occasionally I have to help him with timing or something but that is usually because he had never seen that before. He is doing really well and sets a higher standard for his sister. Allison doesn't have IT quite as easily. She usually has to hear the song first, or really work on it for a couple of weeks. One major problem for her is timing so that is a hard one.
Anyways, I am not trying to teach these kids to be concert pianists, just want them to know how to play to be able to play in church. There is always a need for a piano player at church and sadly I can't ever do it.
I have been letting the kids pick which church song they want to learn so here is one of Matthew's songs. He came up with the second verse version all on his own. It puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.
