An Ultrasound, for the kids

Our last RS president told me that her sister, who is also in our ward is an ultrasound tech. She mostly does hearts and stuff like that but I was told to go talk to her if I ever wanted to have another ultrasound done. 

I thought, oh that is nice, but I won't need one, nor do I want to bother her. I had no intentions of ever having her do an ultrasound until Allison started telling me about how she remembers going to the Dr. office when we first moved here and she saw the baby up on the screen. I was really hoping that being 4 she didn't remember that.

At that moment I knew that we needed to get to make a different memory of seeing a baby on the screen when it was moving around and you could see the heart beating.

I was thinking to have Mary do it in January but she suggested we go that Saturday. Whatever worked for her, was great for us.

We all drove to her office Saturday morning, the 22nd, (22 weeks and 5 days) and she took us in the back door. Walked to her office and laid down and got started. The kids LOVED seeing their little baby. The baby was waving to them and then at one point it was also sucking its thumb. It was crazy to actually see the lips moving in and out as it sucked. It kicked and rolled over while we were watching it and I never felt anything, probably because I was on my back but was really cool to see our baby again. I hope that puts a different memory in Allison's mind.

It was SO sweet of Mary to do that for us and then we got up and walked out. It was amazing just how quick everything can be if you don't have to wait:)

Such a fun thing for the kids to see, especially since they are older and will probably remember that. If they were younger it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

23 Weeks

Today, November 24th, I am 23 weeks.

Here is how I am feeling and what is going on with this pregnancy.

I have fortunately and unfortunately gotten my appetite back. 

I can eat anything and as much as I want, though I don't devour the sweets like I did before this pregnancy, more mental I think.

I can't really hide that I am pregnant anymore, unless I am wearing my big heavy coat.
I hope I don't outgrow that coat this winter.
I seem pretty normal, have most of my energy however since I can only sleep on my sides, my hips hurt on night. Awhile ago, I thought I found a solution but apparently it was only temporary. So the numerous times I wake up at night my hips are aching. It may be a long 17 weeks, but OH MY GOODNESS only 17 weeks left!!! That excites me and terrifies me all at the same time. When I say 4 months left it seems like SO long but when I say 17 weeks it seems like it is just around the corner.
Chris and I went and looked at cribs, strollers, bassinets, diaper bags ect, ect. However, it is still hard for me to commit, almost as if I am still not letting myself believe that this is actually going to happen. I LOVED getting stuff from people and gets me excited but for me to actually spend money on anything really scares me for some reason.
I am really hoping that in January, after the holidays, I can start thinking and preparing more and more for this little baby.
I am also having a hard time saying "she", or thinking about names.
Chris asked me one morning, "Is she awake yet?"
I replied with, "I don't know, I haven't seen her yet."
He was obviously referring to this little baby whereas in my mind she means Allison.
Another good and bad thing is I think I have finally started gaining weight after losing the 10 pounds.
We will see what it says at my dr. appointment next week.
I came down with a cold on the 8th, our anniversary, and just now I am starting to think it might be going away. However, now my family has it:(
I am definitely getting bigger, I feel this baby move/kick numerous times a day so that must mean that things are going well and it is growing.

Carving Pumpkins

The kids really drove this year's pumpkin carving this year. 

Allison kept asking when we were going to get pumpkins, and so we finally did.

Then they sat for awhile and I kept putting it off, because well, it does take a long time.

Finally we found some time to do the pumpkins....the problem is Chris and I don't really like doing them. We know how much work you have to put into it to get it all cleaned out and such. Usually the kids just get the fun part of it all.

Well.....this year I decided that if the kids really wanted to do it then they could do it all.

They weren't excited about finding out they were going to have to do it all but they persevered.

 However, they didn't enjoy it...

 

So they may have been a little disgusted about getting the seeds out.

I was SUPER proud of them.

They pretty much got every single seed out of their pumpkins. Other then me cutting the tops off for them, they did EVERYTHING!!!

They are not a cleaned out as what I would do but I am so impressed that they were able to do ALL OF IT!!!!

Yes, they used little knives and cut out all of these pieces.

They were pretty happy with the results and that they did it 

ALL BY THEMSELVES!!!!

They did such a FANTASTIC job!!

Chick-Fil-A Bowl Game

Matthew had his last game of the season on October 25th. This was the week of the bowl games. Basically what they did was looked at all the teams and their win/losses and tried the match the teams up that would be roughly the same level. We didn't know until the Wednesday before when our Matthew's game was. His team was in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

It was crazy how much like college football they tried to make things.

Before each game session (there were 4 game sessions) they asked everybody to rise for the National Anthem. They had this flag out in the middle of all the fields and they played a recording of the National Anthem.

 A few REALLY cool things about this last game was

1.) His teacher, Ms. Hand, came to his game. Matthew invited her a few weeks back but she was usually busy or out of town. This week she was able to make it. It was really fun to talk to her basically the whole game and get to know her a little and enjoy watching Matthew play. He was really happy to see her when he looked over. It was very sweet and special to him. He doesn't have grandparents and family close to come watch him so that really meant a lot not only to him, but to me also.

2.) Matthew scored his first touchdown!!!!!! Ok, when not officially but he did have a good game. He had a few plays that he actually ran the ball and got lots of yards.

He didn't officially get the touchdown but in this league, instead of kicking the extra point, they have to run it in for the extra point. So Matthew caught the ball and ran the ball in for the extra point!!!! It was at the end of the game and I was SOOO impressed with him!!! He felt so proud of himself. His team had only won one game all season and lost to this team the first time they played them. However, Matthew learned from his experience in basketball that just because you win or lose to a team the first time(s) doesn't mean that same thing is going to happen. You just never know and you have to just play your best.

Matthew's team did end up winning the Chick-Fil-A Bowl Game, 

so I guess you could say it was an upset:)

He enjoyed his first season of flag football and so did I:)

Halloween Costumes

Last April when the kids and I went to Legoland Florida, Matthew saw these things and REALLY wanted them. I kept telling him that he didn't need them. He stopped asking but constantly talked about these. At the end of the second day we were there, I secretly went and bought these and hid them in my backpack. We surprised him with one last birthday present when we got home.

Anyways, I was fully prepared to go pay the $20 it usually costs to get a new costume.

Allison said that she wanted to be Ariel again this year and Matthew didn't really have a preference. I was thinking about making a Minecraft costume for him but then suggested he be a Lego Knight since he had the stuff and he was SUPER excited about that.

So the only thing I had to make was a Lego Breastplate and he was good to go.

These little kids got to do trick-or-treating 3 times, once at our school trunk-or-treat, then obviously on Halloween night, and lastly because of scheduling issues we had our ward Fall Festival the day after Halloween and the kids got to dress up and do another trunk-or-treating there.

It was warm for the first event, becoming colder for the second, and then the day of the fall festival, it was rainy and cold!! I LAYERED my children. They each had about 3-4...or 5 layers on underneath their costumes and then while they weren't doing the trunk or treating, they had their heavy coats, scarfs, hats, and gloves on. The kids and I all stayed warm but many people were freezing or huddled around the bonfire trying to stay warm or get dry.

Last year she had the long red hair for this costume...

Allison SAYS she wants to be Ariel again next year which I am A-OK with:) 

Hopefully it will fit her next year:)

Remote Control Fun

I finally decided to look up how much remotes would be for my camera....only $5.

ONLY $5!!!! Why have I not had a remote control earlier to take pictures of our family???

I was planning on going up to Charlottsville as a family and going to an apple orchard and thought it would be fun to take pictures in the orchard but I didn't want to run back and forth so I finally got a remote.

I set up the tripod, put the camera on it and gave the kids the remote control.

Someone Else Felt The Baby Kick - Finally

Tonight, Wednesday, November 19th, 22 weeks and 2 days, Matthew and Chris FINALLY felt the baby kick!!!!!

FINALLY!!!!

I have been waiting for them to feel it since about 15 when I started to but hoping at 18 that they would be able to, and now finally.

Allison is too impatient to keep her hand on my belly for more than about a second before giving up because she can't feel it.

Matthew got to feel it about 3 times while he trying and he thought it was really cool to finally be able to feel the baby kick.

Allison told me, "Mom, it is ok that I can't feel it because I will be able to feel the baby move when I get married and become a mommy."

Tonight, Chris and I were watching Sherlock Holmes and this little baby was just very active. I put Chris' hand on my stomach and he was surprised how much moving/kicking this little one was doing also.

I really think that Chris felt Matthew move at like 18 weeks and maybe my memory is wrong, (I wasn't writing on a blog then) or maybe it is because I started 25lbs smaller with Matthew then with this one so there wasn't as much to get through.

A Weekend Get-Away!!!

When Chris went to Charlottsville for a week for a conference he actually won the grand prize, which was a two night stay at a hotel up in Charlottsville.

We tried to get my mom to come down and watch the kids but that didn't work out so we were thinking we would have to take the kids with us but Charlottsville really isn't a town for little kids. Not much to do for them. It is definitely a college town.

We were going to go the weekend of our 12th Anniversary but the hotel didn't have any reservations that weekend so we went the weekend after, Nov. 14 - 16.

Finally, last minute we were able to find a babysitter, Katelyn, to watch our kids from Friday night until Sunday when we picked them up from church.

IT WAS GREAT TO JUST HAVE A WEEKEND ALONE!!!!

On Friday night, we left around 7pm and drove about 30 minutes away and went to a new restaurant and had Tikka Masala...again. This time it was more spicy then yummy. After that we drove the 45 minutes up to Charlottsville.

The next day, we just got to sleep in, then go have a pretty good continental breakfast at the hotel. Then we walked to where Edgar Allen Poe's dorm when he went to University of Virginia.

Then we walked the streets going into whatever shops or stores we wanted, waiting for a used bookstore to open. After we checked out that bookstore we caught the bus to do into the thoroughfare of Charlottsville.

Again we walked around going into different book stores, and any other store our little hearts desired. It was really fun just the two of us checking different things out. We also went to a movie, which we NEVER do when we are home. We went to The Maze Runner. It was fun just doing things that we don't normally do. We ate at a fast food place, and ate cold noodles. It was kind of weird. I didn't really love it but Chris really liked it. 

Then we went to a national dance competition. Again, something we would NEVER do here. I was surprised Chris even suggested we go because I know he doesn't really enjoy things like that, but he knows that I do. Sadly, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Part of the disappointment was that the MC was made it into his own personal racist stand-up show. He kept bringing up race and getting the audience to come up and talk about how it is still a problem and just dragging it out and beating the issue over the head. At one point I wanted to walk out because it was just this guy asking stupid questions when I was there to watch dancing.

Some dance teams were way too provocative for me, and too much gangster feeling but there were a few teams that were AWESOME!!!  It was fun to see the good teams and I really enjoyed them but I don't think it was worth the money we paid...but still something we wouldn't do when we were home.

There was a sign that we saw in the morning that there was a volleyball game that night (Come Watch Volleyball tonight at 7pm) so I was REALLLLLLLY hoping that we would be able to go. Chris would have gone with me, (we went to a couple ASU volleyball games when we were dating) but it turned out that the sign was for the previous night. I was a little disappointed but there was nothing we could do about it. We weren't even in town when they were playing. So we found a restaurant and went and ate.

After we ate too much, we thought that a Ben & Jerry's ice cream place was closer then we thought so we just walked, but we should have driven. IT WAS COLD!!! We had hats and gloves thanks to Chris who knew I would be cold without them but it was still a long walk in the cold. BUT we did it without the kids so it was all ok:)

Sunday morning we got up and had the yummy breakfast again and then headed home.

I knew from the last time we were gone that the kids wouldn't be excited that we were home....but I was hopeful that they would want to see us....

When I picked Allison up from her primary class at the end of church, she was really sad and said, "I wanted Katelyn to pick me up." 

*happy to see you too, child*

She saw Katelyn's mom and went and gave her a big hug and told her, "I want to go home with you." Sister Dalton asked her if she was happy her mom was home and Allison quietly said, "no". I just had to laugh, at the way she was acting. 

Of course it is more fun to have a babysitter. I made them do their Saturday chores Friday night so they wouldn't have to do any chores on Saturday. They went over to Katelyn's house for breakfast and stayed until after lunch. Came back to our house for a couple hours and then went back to Katelyn's house for dinner. Came back later to go to bed. Got up Sunday, had breakfast and went to church. Yeah, they had a ton of fun, no wonder they wanted to go back to Katelyn's house.

Allison was SO cranky we were home, and Matthew too actually. Allison had such a poutty face on. When we got in the car, I just started laughing, and laughing, and laughing at the the way the kids were acting that we were home. Finally Matthew asked me why I was laughing so much and I finally said, probably to keep me from crying.....then burst into tears. 

(I am thinking some pregnancy hormones MAY have had something to do with this roller coaster of emotions) 

I want my kids to have fun and be good for babysitters but I also want them to miss me/us. I was so sad at the way the kids were acting that I had to laugh or cry, and just did both. When Allison saw me crying, she started crying because she felt bad that I didn't feel loved by my kids, and said she really was glad I was home. So Matthew is sitting there in the car with his mom bawling and his sister crying.

When we got home, Chris was in the sitting room (I dropped him off before I headed to the church to pick the kids up), Matthew said, "Finally, somebody that isn't crying."

Allison and I hugged and made up....and then she didn't want to leave my side:)

It was great to just have some time with Chris and be on a constant date for about 36 hours. It was also good to go during the 2nd trimester when I felt great and not hurting as much. I don't think I would be able to do all that walking around now. I know Chris was really happy not to have the kids with us when it wasn't really a thing for kids. It is easier to leave with older kids so that won't be happening again anytime soon. Though we are looking forward to a new baby, it will change a lot of things so we are treasure our family without the baby now, and doing things that will be more difficult in about 8 weeks. I am grateful that Chris and I had that time together though and that it all worked out.

Gender Reveal

November 3rd, 20 Weeks exactly, I was scheduled to find out the gender of our baby.

Chris has asked me many times if I had an incling of what the baby might me. This pregnancy has been so different then the others that I have never had an idea.

Chris and I went on Monday for our appointment and then he was to go home after our ultrasound so that he would be home when the kids got home but I had a dr. appt after my ultrasound.

I had been thinking for a while that it would be fun to have a little party to tell me friends what we were having. A gender reveal party. I finally decided that it wold just be a fun reason to have friends over to my house. So I decided that I would have a party on the Thursday afterwards. I didn't want the kids to spoil that party so I told them that we weren't going to tell them what we were having until Friday after the party. 

However, Chris and I were talking and he mentioned that Matthew DID keep the secret that we were pregnant even when he REALLY wanted to tell people, but he DIDN'T!!

So to show him that we trust him with some secrets we decided to tell them when I got home from my Dr. appt on Monday but they could only tell people at school what we were having. It was a little bit harder for Matthew because he had Cub Scouts on Wednesday so he would see people from church.

I went and got balloons in the color of gender we were having. I was going to do this outside and let the balloons fly away but it was cold outside so we just did it in our house. I put the balloons in the box and let the kids open it.

Matthew was SOOO adamant about NOT having a sister so before the ultrasound I really had to convince him that it would be ok either way if he had a sister or brother.

Here are what the kids said after they found out.

The kids did keep their secret, other then to people from school (obviously nobody from our ward goes to their school).

On Wednesday night when Matthew went to Cub Scouts, he went up to one of his den leaders and said, "I KNOW WHAT WE ARE HAVING!!!" 

She said, "Stop! I don't want to know, I am going to the party." 

He had to keep it quiet.

Thursday night I had my party. It was fun to just have some of my friends come and hang out and celebrate with me.

I have heard of cake reveals where you cut into a white frosted cake and then it is either blue or pink, but I am not a huge fan of cake so I didn't want that here.

I made up little pieces of paper that said IT'S A ??????????????, except one that had what it was so all of my friends got to pick one and then one special person was the person that got to spill the beans:)

It was fun to have friends here to celebrate with me and find out themselves what I was having.

So the friends that came to celebrate with me were:

Sharon Wright - I am her visiting teacher and it has been so great getting to know her. I would have never gotten to know her if it weren't for visiting teaching. She is so sweet and a wonderful friend. She actually came early to help me with finishing touches before it was suppose to start.

Jaynie Browder - She just moved into the ward about a year ago. I "interviewed" her for the spotlight that I was doing. She is really fun. She is in Young Women's right now but she is also one of my wonderful supervisors, that always gets her reports in without me having to ask!!!! :) She is also very talented. She made me about 8 burp clothes, super cute but ALSO there is padding inside them. This baby will be super cozy laying on it....as long as it is not wet:)

Jenny Ramsey - She is three weeks behind me. We have both had numerous miscarriages. Her last miscarriage though, she had to do a D&C...but they didn't actually get it out the FIRST time!! She had to go through that experience AGAIN!!!!

We are both very apprehensive about our pregnancies and rely on each other. She is also having a girl.

Candi Blaser - She is super fun, has a son Matthew's age and I absolutely LOVE being around her. She is so real AND she is the Bishop's wife. She was the first one to sit next to me when I moved here. I knew her before I knew who her husband was. When the Bishop introduced himself a week or two after moving here, I said, oh, you are Candi's husband:)

Annette Dalton - She is such a fun and intelligent lady. She is super sweet. She has a 10, 12, 14 & 16 year old. I laugh because our kids could just be added to the end of hers as far as ages go and it be perfectly in sync. She is the Young Women's president and her husband is the Priest Advisor. Chris really likes the Dalton family. He had a great time with Bary in Priests and Chris had to talk to Annette a lot when he was Young Men's president. They are a great family to be around. Annette took the kids and I to the beach for our first time two days after we moved here.

Monique Morrison - I think Monique is really cool but our paths hadn't really met before. She was in the Primary presidency when we first moved here but got released and was in youth Sunday School since then....until now. We are both in the Relief Society Presidency now. She is the 2nd counselor. I was really excited when I heard that because I want to get to know her more and one of the best ways to do that is to serve with her. 

Miriam Burton - She is super sweet, kind and supportive. She is the Primary President and just has such a calm feeling around her. She never seems frazzled or upset, just go with the flow.

Janet Wu - I got to know Janet by being her visiting teacher. She is such a quiet lady. She moved here from NYC a couple years ago but she is originally from China. She doesn't talk a whole lot, just too herself. She shows up to so many things and supportive of so many things going on. It is funny because the kids are learning Chinese so they are able to say hi and bye to her and a few other things and I think she really enjoys it.

Dana Coons - Dana is another sister that I visit teach. Man, I get to know so many people through visiting teaching. She is so fun, but she is a private person. She doesn't let everybody know what is going on so I really have to ask questions and still trying to get to know her but not be pushy. She is crafty too. She knitted me a yellow baby hat for the baby.

Karen Eliason - She is such a great friend. She is my closest friend here. She just got released from RS 1st Counselor and it now Primary 2nd Counselor. I feel like I never get to see her much anymore since she is always in Primary and I am in Relief Society. She has had miscarriages before also and wants to have more kids so she and I would frequently have conversations about how we are doing with everything. Our kids have so much fun playing together. Karen is the one person that if I want to talk to someone I talk to her and if there is a Girls Night Out or lunch or any other get together we go together.

Carol Settle - She is such a life of the party. She has so much happiness energy. She always has something to say, but not in a bad way, she just is friends with everyone and has a story for SO many things. The way she tells her stories are the greatest. She makes everyone feel important and like she is their best friend. She is super fun to have around and to talk to. She is in Young Women's and those girls are so lucky to have her. She does so much for them. She has 3 boys and is so fun with them. Most often when I go to things she is there and just makes it a better event.

Denise Gregory - She has so laid back which is surprising because she is the mother of 7 kids. She doesn't seem to get frazzled, just going with what it next. She was an only child and her husband came from a family of 11 I believe, but she was the one that said, she wanted LOTS of kids. She LOVES babies and is so excited for me to have mine.

I think that was it, I hope I didn't miss anybody.

Jenny has 5 boys and 1 girl so she just figures everyone is having a boy like she did....HOWEVER this this one that she is pregnant with, is a GIRL!!

I wish I had pictures of everybody but I got side tracked and put the camera down.

So the morning of the ultrasound, I told Chris, I think it is a girl. The reason why I said that is because Allison is our stubborn child. This baby will kick and kick until I want someone else to feel it and then it will stop. So in my mind it is a little bit stubborn so that is why I made my guess of a girl and fortunately and unfortunately I was right.

For some reason I was kind of hoping of a girl, probably because it is so fun to shop for a girl:)

Matthew's 6th Lost Tooth

It is funny that my last post about Matthew loosing teeth which was his fourth tooth lost, I mentioned that I didn't think there were any other loose ones.

Well, about a month later, he wanted me to take another picture of a lost tooth and this was tooth #6 (apparently I skipped a picture with tooth #5). 

I think that he is liking loosing all of these teeth.

He might just be loving ALL the money he is getting from these loose teeth but unfortunately for him, he has a cheap tooth fairy, $1 for the first tooth, and $.50 for every tooth after that.

On facebook I have read that some kids get $5/tooth!!

However, he tells me that people in his class get $10 and $20/tooth....maybe theirs are made out of gold? 

I don't really think our kids need a lot of money for things so I guess that is one of the many reasons why I don't feel too bad about them not getting a ton for teeth.

He has teeth # 7 and 8 wiggling so it is just a matter of time now.

Relief Society Activity (Enrichment)

This is just what our Relief Society is doing for their activity this month.

I needed to post the pictures and get them in my google/gmail images so that I could send them with an email to all the sisters in my ward.

12 YEARS!!!

I am so grateful that I get to be married to my best friend. He is such a great husband and father, and no he hasn't done anything out of the ordinary:) He is so good to me and makes me feel so special. I am super blessed to have the marriage that I have. Yesterday, November 8th, we have been married for 12 years! That sounds like a long time but it doesn't seem like it has been a long time.

Last year for our anniversary, I had a babysitter set up and we were going to go to a comedy club that my friend works but one of the kids threw up the night because so we had to cancel everything and never went out.

This year I knew the that youth would be gone for a Temple Trip on Saturday the 8th so I set up a babysitter and the comedy club tickets again. I told Chris that he was in charge of finding a place for us to eat. He has eaten Indian (like East Indian) food a few times and really enjoyed it. He has said before that he wanted to take me sometime. Well, we went to a restaurant called Lahja, everything looked foreign to me so I just let Chris order for me. He ordered Chicken Tikka Masala. IT WAS SOOOO GOOD!!!!!  I could not believe how good it was. It comes with rice and then they also gave us naan (thicker tortilla type bread). Such a DELICIOUS meal. Chris had a dish that had shrimp, lamb, chicken, and maybe something else, it was good, but I think mine was better. 

12 years ago, I was a hamburger type girl. I didn't like anything else, well maybe just hot dogs. I was very plain and didn't like tasting meat. In the 12 years I have really expanded my tastes comparing to where I started. Chris was really happy that he had me try something new and I really liked it.

Then we went to the comedy club. It was an improv type thing with two teams of three completing. It was family friendly, though the kids in the audience sore of ruined it just because they didn't understand what you are suppose to say or not say to make things funny. Besides that though, it was funny and we laughed a lot. All in all, we had a great night and the kids loved the new babysitter we had for them that night.

 I am thankful for the family and life that Chris and I have together.

Saturday morning (our actual anniversary) we took the kids to Ihop for breakfast to celebrate our special day with them.

Unfortunately, when we got home I started feeling under the weather and just slept on the couch. I have come down with a cold and it isn't fun, sneezing, achy, running and stuffy nose, while being pregnant so I was kind of a bum the rest of the day, but I was glad we got to celebrate our anniversary this year:)

The Sticker Project!!!

The purpose of this project, simply stated, is to allow you the chance to give Christmas to a child in Argentina.

If you are interested in sending stickers to a needy child in Argentina for Christmas, please follow these three simple steps:

1. Get an envelope. (No larger than a standard 4 1/8” X 9 1/2”. You could also use a standard greeting card size envelope. Postage costs will vary depending on the location you are sending stickers from.)

2. Put stickers in it, preferably clean sticker sheets that haven’t been used. Keep it simple.

3. Send it to the address below on or before November 10th.

All stickers will be given to children in need on December 24th, Christmas Eve or on January 7th, The Day of the Magi.
