On April 21, 2009 Matthew turned 3 years old. I can't believe he has made it to 3 years. :) I have actually really enjoyed Matthew quite a bit this last year. Granted there are times that he drives me crazy but what child doesn't. I have enjoyed listening to him come up with new things and he has also helped me realize things that I say. For example, one day he came out with "Good grief, child." It is pretty funny to hear him say it but it makes me realize that I must say that a lot. He loves when Allison is awake and loves to play with her. I love when I get to go do something with just Matthew and just focus on him. He really is my little buddy and it is so fun.
On his birthday we had preschool and he shares his birthday with one of his preschool teachers, Teacher Amy. Allison was doing the lesson that week and she gave them a birthday cake that all the kids enjoyed. Thanks Allison!
One of the many things that he has said this last year that was funny, was when he was eating and he didn't want to try it he would say, "I can't like it." Though it gave us a laugh, it still didn't get him out of eating his food.
We tried to make it a special day and took him to Chuck E Cheese's for dinner. He had never been there before and neither had I for that matter. Though everyone told us that the food wasn't very good, we still had some pizza and realized what they meant by it not being very good. Matthew had a great time playing all the different game and riding the different rides. He rode on the merry-go-round a few times.
There was a horse that he could "ride" and we decided Allison should join him. She just loved it.

When we got home, he got to open his present from Grandma and Grandpa which was a Handy Manny Tool Truck. It is fun watching him fix things.
Chris plays Star Wars on the computer with Matthew quite frequently and Matthew always wants to use wrapping paper rolls or paper towel rolls for swords so we decided to get him Light Sabers. He loves his light sabers.
I decided that Matthew was going to have a real birthday party this year so that his friends to be excited to go to a birthday party. The theme was Disney Cars, but mostly Lightening McQueen. I bought the Wilson's 3-D cake pan and found online someone that made a McQueen cake. I was so busy the week that we were doing the party that I didn't want to take the time to go to the store and buy cake mixes. I needed two boxes of cake mixes and I had 3 boxes but none of them were the same kind. So I finally just decided to put two boxes together. I think I put yellow and chocolate together so it was like a marble cake. I was trying to get so many things done that my laundry ended up not getting started until Thursday when it usually gets started and done on Monday. I started laundry on Thursday and then had to go to work Thursday night. I got home from work and had to finish the laundry and ironing and then start on decorating the cake at midnight. After watching almost 4 movies I finally finished decorating McQueen at 6:20am. I thought I was going to be able to finish in time to go to basketball but I didn't. I couldn't believe that I had literally stayed up ALL night decorating a cake. After the cake was done I had to feed my kids breakfast and then decorate the house for the party. I also had to find the things I was going to use for the games. While Allison screamed the whole time that I was decorating and I was trying to go a mile a minute, I wasn't in the best of moods to have this party. I just wanted the whole thing over with. My house was a dissaster. I contemplated calling a friend to come help me set up but it was already 9 and the party started at 10. Around 10am Janine arrived with Anabelle and she probably saw the desperation in my eyes. She immediately got to work picking up all the toys, hiding things in rooms and closets and swept my terrible floor. I felt so bad that she had to see my house like that but I was so thankful for such a wonderful friend that would look past my imperfections and just help me out. Thanks so much Janine. After she cleaned my house I realized I just have just called her at 9 when I thought about it so she didn't have to rush so much, but oh well.
I thought Matthew would be so excited when he saw his Lightening McQueen cake I video taped it but as you can tell it is not on here so needless to say, there wasn't much excitement.
We played pin the sunglasses on McQueen. Chris drew this Lightening McQueen free-hand so that I could have them play this game. He is a pretty good artist.
I gave all the kids "wheels" and we pretended to be race car drivers.
For lunch we had pizza and watermelon and chocolate milk.
The friends that came to his party were his preschool friends: Kyle, Kaitlyn, Joseph, Anabelle, Elaina, and Erin.

It was so fun watching him open his presents because all his friends were right there watching him. Thanks friends for coming to celebrate his birthday with us.
