As a 5th grader Matthew got to participate in the Ensemble which is basically a drumming or percussion band with only 5th graders.
He really enjoyed it.

Michelle's Broken Leg:)

Friday night, May 19th, the older kids were really hyper so I made them go outside. They were jumping on the trampoline and then Michelle wanted to jump with them. She got on, and usually the kids are really good with her on there but apparently Matthew didn't want to jump with her or something, anyways he came inside. Meanwhile Allison just adores her sister and was just holding her hands and sort of jumping with Michelle. I told Matthew he needed to go back outside, jump on the trampoline if you want to. Well, he went back on the trampoline and shortly after I heard Michelle crying. Michelle is a very typical 2 year old and cries a lot so I wasn't overly concerned when I heard her crying. A short while later Matthew came running in the house, I asked what was wrong and he said, "nothing", grabbed his first aid kit that he made in Cub Scouts and ran back outside.
A little while later, they brought Michelle in and she was still crying. They told me they jumped her too high and she fell. She had a scrape on her knee but Matthew didn't realize it was dried from falling down the day before but he was sure trying and put a band-aid on her scraped knee. I got her to stop crying but she was favoring her left leg. We thought she had a sprained ankle because that seemed to be the area of the pain. We wrapped up her ankle and gave her pain killer and seemed to be ok for her.
In the morning she was standing in her crib but only on one leg, not putting pressure on her left leg. At one point she started just crying a lot, I was thinking it was between the doses of pain killer but I called my sister, Heather, who is a nurse and talked to her about it. She suggested that I take her to get it looked at.
So I did, I took her to the pediatricians office...for them to say, it looks broken but we don't have an x-ray machine so you need to go to a different place. We took her to Kid Med and sure enough it was broken...but not just one one TWO! Both her Tibia and Fibula. One of the bones, I think the Tibia had a compressed fracture I believe they said, it was smashed together a bit, in the side profile, the bones yetted out just a bit, like too much compression, which makes since being on a trampoline, and then the other, Fibula had just a small hairline fracture. They bandaged her up and told us to call an orthopedic surgeon on Monday to get a cast on it.

Monday we called and got right in. I have never seen a cast get put on before so that was interesting. I was also quite concerned because we are flying to AZ in 4 weeks and I was worried she would be in a cast the whole time we are there. The Dr said she will be in a cast for 3 weeks and then be in a boot so I was VERY happy to hear that news.

She is starting to learn that this is the new "normal" for her. She scooches to get where so wants to go. It is really sad to see her scooch a long ways to get something and bring it back to you, just breaks our hearts. She has played with her good leg so much more than she ever has before putting necklaces on it and just using it as a toy.

Mother's Day 2017

Here are our Mother's Day Photos from 2017
Not great, and why I let Michelle's hair be like this, I have no idea, probably ran out of time???? But we were at 1pm...so I don't think I have an excuse.

I wanted the kids to give something to all the women in the ward that wouldn't die in a couple days so I spent a lot of time making these flowers and this "flower pot/garden"
The kids got to pick a flower during singing time and then it had a song on the back of it, but then they were to give it to one of the ladies after we sang a song to the ladies during 3rd hour.

They looked cute and I thought they would be a lot more appreciated and then I saw many on the ground in the church, in the parking lot and then a couple weeks later, a lady mentioned something about those dumb flowers they got on Mother's Day that just ended up on the ground in her driveway. She didn't know I was the one that made them. They were not appreciated at all.

Matthew's 11 year old measurements

Matthew turned 11 so we got to do a check-up...
AND he got his middle school shots!!!! :(
His check up was a week and half after his birthday, and though I know they are suppose to be going through a growth spurt, I don't think he has grown a ton in a week and a half:)

Weight: 83.8 pounds (61%)
Height: 58 1/4 (73%)
Blood Pressure: 102/50, which I guess is good.

Mother/Daughter Paint Night

For Activity Day Girls, they planned a Mother/Daughter paint night.
Yeah, I am not a big painter and I didn't love it very much, but we did it.
Allison's is on the left, mine is the right.

I think this was the first time I was able to put Michelle's hair in a full french braid!

All Kinds of Crafty

I was talking to my kids about taking them up to Montana and I would have to take them to the trailers where I grew up and show them our measurement wall. It would be fun to see how they compare to me as far as height goes. Then I remembered seeing this right as we were leaving TX. Some of my friends were doing them. I had always wanted to make them but forgot being in apartments and moving so much. Anyways, I finally just looked through pinterest to get an idea of what I wanted to do and just did it.

While I was in the "just do it" mood. I had been wanting to make something like this for a long time. We don't have very much drawer space so these were on the shelf in a closet and just not working. I think I saw something like this looking through pinterest once and had always wanted to do it. In fact, one time I bought wood and stuff to do it and then it sat in a room for a long time I just decided I better take the wood back. I finally went to Home Depot looking for what I wanted. I found a chart just left of cut wood. I asked a couple different people that worked there where I would find that stuff. They didn't know and since it was all cut anyways, they said they would have just thrown it out so I could have it for free. I am so glad for it.
